When Bowen is helpful: Consider using Bowen as soon as possible after injuries, car accidents, lingering illness, sprains and strains, discomfort or anxiety in the dentist’s chair, before and after surgery, close to receiving chemo, before and after athletic events, when you need a general reboot, and when you get too stressed to smell the roses.
Scheduling: Initially, I usually prefer to schedule weekly appointments. After the first session, you will probably feel better–but it may not hold for a full week. After the second session, you will likely feel even better and for longer–I expect an upwardly moving trajectory of increased comfort, yet one with dips and valleys.
Ideally, I want to see you weekly until the improvement you want lasts from one week to the next. We then space out the appointments to two weeks. When relief holds for that period of time, we usually taper down to three and four weeks, and so forth. You may want to support the improvement with monthly tune-ups (see below).
Several factors affect the speed at which healing takes place. These may include how much water you drink, how healthy you already are, how many medications you take, how deeply rooted your condition has become, and how willing you are to replace poor habits with more helpful ones.
I generally expect improvement after every session. Now and then, we find it takes a while longer to get the ball rolling–especially with high levels of long-term physical or emotional pain. My goal is that you will feel better as soon as possible, so I do everything I can to help you do that.
Maintenance mode. Regular tune-ups provide a rich opportunity to catch new insults as they come along: you tripped, a cold keeps hanging on, you lifted something heavier than expected, emotions are strained and you need an attitude adjustment. You’d be amazed how many potential difficulties you can sail through when you have a regularly scheduled Bowen session. Putting the little things behind you is key to avoiding deeper, chronic problems that show up down the road.
(I offer a discount to clients who schedule monthly tune-ups, but you may decide that every 6+ weeks is more appropriate for you.)
